Each year the Miramichi Airport hosts the Young Eagles Program that is sponsored
by the local Chapter of the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA). COPA Flight 39 also hosts a Fly-In in
August. One of the highlights for the general public is an opportunity for children and teenagers to experience a flight in
a single engine aircraft.
The brochure for the program outlines the aim; “The Young Eagles
Program is sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Aviation Foundation, a charitable non-profit organization
dedicated to the discovery and fulfillment of individual potential through personal flight. The Young Eagles Program has been
developed by the EAA Aviation Foundation to welcome young people into the world of aviation.”
Leonel Richard, Publicity Director for COPA 39 states; “Every
young person from age 8 to 17 can be a Young Eagle simply by completing a registration form signed by a parent or guardian.
They will fly in a single engine aircraft with a qualified pilot. This activity is safe, fun and it’s free.”
The dates for the next Young Eagles Program will be posted here when
available.
